Goodies from the kitchen

This is the time of year I bake. Now you don't want to hear about my weird dietary requirements, and believe me, if I had my preference I'd live on French bread, Nutella or any chocolate, cheese and wine. Nope not from France, but just love that type of food.

But no, allergies to wheat keep me from the foods I love. Annnyyyhhhoowww. I'm baking like crazy and thought you might like a sample.

Enjoy! And, oh, you're welcome!

Christmas Snow

Winter has arrived, and that ole saying, "winter majesty on a frosty mornin'" doesn't always apply to us southerners. Here in the southeast we'll be having a wet Christmas, but it'll be raining and mid-sixties instead of the white stuff.

Here's a few pics to get you in the mood without the electric bill and hazardous driving conditions.

Sexy Saturday - Cowboy Santas

cowboy santa: Landmark wouldn't be what it is without a few cowboys spreading holiday cheer, playing Santa... er...well...playing anyway.

Enjoy!

Tantalizing Tuesday - Mrs. Claus and a few of her friends.

Anastasia's filled with the Christmas Spirit and she's spreading it around. Maybe she's a little too happy this year.

She's a little naughty, but then so are a few of her friends; Marlee and Jennifer and Patty.

Country Men make my heart sore.: Anastasia begged Colton James
to wear this, but alas, he declined.

Christmas Vacation vs Home Alone

You knew it was going to happen. The holiday season is upon us and of course that means Christmas movies.

In our house it's Christmas Vacation.

Which is so not my favorite.

In fact, I can barely get through the movie, but so much better than It's a Wonderful Life. Anyway, I digress. Not liking Christmas Vacation is somewhat of a conundrum because Christmas is not my holiday and no matter what the intention of the movie is, it definitely portrays Christmas and the way we celebrate in a bad light.

Christmas is okay, but I see my family weekly and some of them daily, so nothing special there. To add to that there is no spark as we gather at my father's home. I could say a few years ago it was because mother had passed away, but it's been eight years, going on nine now, and we've all gone through the grief process. But, the atmosphere is one of doom and gloom. (Not me).

Image result for christmas vacationBut, I think it's because our Christmases are somewhat similar to Christmas Vacation. All the work is done by the Griswolds. They have a home invasion of family members and then there is that one person who shows up, that shouldn't be there, and [he or she] has no clue they're mucking up the holiday.

But, is Home Alone any different. Of course, when Kevin is abandoned by his family, his world is quite peaceful, except for a few pesky would be robbers that actually break up the monotony.

However, before Kevin found himself spending Christmas alone, their home was a war zone of moochers, annoying siblings, and me, me, me attitude by Kevin. (Kind of like family sucking your...) well enough of that.

Beverly D'Angelo the beautiful wife trying to be the voice of reason with a few kids and in-laws thrown in or a few hours of the cute kid trying to steal our hearts, which gets old fast.

Oh, btw, I've made peace with the holiday, so my bah-humbug attitude, which I love Dicken's A Christmas Carol, only goes so far as this blog. Right now, I'm stringing lights. playing Christmas music and planning the goodies I'll be baking for the next few weeks.

To NaNoWriMo and Beyond....

Ooops. Sorry about that I got carried away there for a minute. I've been writing about NaNoWriMo for so many days now, that it seems that is all I have on my mind.

Believe me, completing 50k was all that was on my mind. However, I reaped way more in rewards. When I began I knew the title of book two, the names of the characters and the male lead was a cowboy Casanova.

The theme of getting him on the cover of the author's book was there, but I knew little else. So, I plotted. I am not a plotter. I sit down and just write.

While I did that with the story itself, the dialogue, how I would put them into a certain situation was all came from just writing.

But, I did sit down and typed out chapter by chapter what I wanted from them. Yes, they took tangents, and I'm so grateful for that.

The one thing I can truly say was the best thing to come from a month of writing was learning about my characters.

Not only Tamara and Jackson and at the end Danika and Forrest (Kisec), but the minor characters and people on my fictional town of Landmark Texas.

So, I want you to meet them, too. My Pinterest boards to the right of my posts were built during NaNoWriMo. I needed some inspiration and those pictures gave them to me.

Meet Anastasia Barton. Anastasia is an older version of Ashley Graham, but still just as beautiful. I wasn't sure just what my author would look like. And as she became more pivotal to the stories, I had to create more for her character.

I love Ashley's curves. Her beauty is not a facade, but goes well beyond skin. I can't say anything about the model, I don't know her, but Anastasia, is a take charge woman, embraces her assets and faults. She's a caring woman as seen in the way she's moved to Landmark to take care of her grandparents. (I've noticed I have a lot of grandparents or grandmothers in this series), but I guess that's because I cared so much about mine. They are all gone now, along with my mother, but I can remember happy times shared with them. That is what I wanted for my characters.
And Anastasia is a romantic. She's not above fixing up those around her as we'll see in book three.

Click here to get to know Anastasia a little more.

Add a another ten years to her age and she's perfect for my character Anastasia, the writer who is behind the scenes in Cowboy Cover Models series.:

NaNoWriMo Day 28 - Winding Down

With only a few days left on NaNoWriMo, and now that I'm finished, I thought today I'd write about my early thoughts.

Before signing up to commit to a month long writing session, with specific word counts and the accountability, I took a month to think about it. Actually I had been thinking about signing up since July, but by the beginning of October I really began to examine the whole premise.

I went on NaNo's website and did my research. I read a several blog posts, and spoke with a few author friends. They all noted their experiences.

The common theme was that it was life-changing in their writing. That was what I was looking for. But, I was afraid. I imagined writing about 10 thousand words. I would be embarrassed by the whole situation.

During our two week vacation at the beginning of October I truly spend days thinking could I do this? I finally decided I could, and believed and imagined that I was a NaNo winner.

I told my family my plans. I spoke with my friend Susan, a writer, and told her of my goals. Each week we saw one another she'd ask, "how is the word count going?" I was happy to give her my numbers.

But, the best thing that helped keep boost my writing was joining a group of other NaNoWriters and talking to one another every day.

We set goals, encouraged one another that they could make this, and no matter if they wrote a hundred words or 5 thousand, they rocked.

I will say I did write today. Just a few hundred words, but it's now second nature to write daily and I'm looking forward to staying the course.

NaNoWriMo Day 27 - Yeah, I Made it

I made it. I actually wrote 50K words in less than 1 month. I can't describe how I feel right now. I'm happy, relieved, and at the same time ready to continue book three.

Not sure what I'll post in the next few days, but NaNoWriMo isn't over until Monday, and I'd be remiss not to continue to write and post about my experience.

Would love to hear from others competing in NaNoWriMo and send out my congrats to all who are participating and making their goal.

Speaking of which, my goal was to write book two in its entirety. I did that. I realized about a week ago, I was competing against myself.

And for the first time in a long time, I pushed myself to surpass my expectations and win. It isn't that certificate that I received from NaNoWriMo that's all important, it's knowing I made it and then some.

Good luck to you all who are participating and near your goal, as well as to those who have finished.
Your Rock!

This guy was my main inspiration. I took the photo and changed it to make it the background in my Word document. I had to look at him daily as I wrote. There were times I wasn't sure I wanted to write, but he looked me in the eye and challenged me daily.
